Come together over prevention
San Juan, February 21, 2009 – In an alliance that pursuits the eradication of violence out of our schools and communities, education professionals from various public schools, together with coordinators from the Boys and Girls Club of Puerto Rico (BGCPR) were trained today by the Chana and Samuel Levis Foundation (FCSL). The workshops were about the prevention of guns in schools; “Arm yourself with courage, speak up”. The initiative, sponsored by Centennial de Puerto Rico, is part of a public service campaign which purpose is to empower the students so that they denounce anonymously situations involving fire arms to the private line 1-877-70-VALOR line (1-877-708-2567).
“At Centennial we want to make a contribution to Puerto Rico; we want the Island to be free of violence, that is why we are training these teachers so they can get across the message of mediation and peace to all our youth” said Moira Tamayo, Centennial’s Marketing Vice President. “The workshop is an excellent opportunity and it will provide the teachers and coordinators with important tools for the prevention of violence. They will pass off these tools to their students so that they can arm themselves with courage and report the threats”, she noted.
During the workshop, around twenty members of the scholar community composed by teachers, social workers, counselors and directors, as well as prevention coordinators from the seven club houses of BGCPR, were advised on how to offer the students forums where they could discuss openly their worries in regards to violent situations involving fire arms, as well as possible answers to this social problem. The workshop included a session in which violent situations were described from the experience of two persons who had the opportunity to anticipate the situation and both handled it differently: one person decided to speak up in order to try to avoid a possible tragedy, while the other person decided to keep silence. This is how the staff received the strategy to motivate the students in order for them to make the analysis of options to prevent and avoid these types of incidents. They also received training on creative management of conflict.
Mariely Rivera Hernández, Executive director of FCSL pointed out “School violence is one of the most common displays of violence in modern society. Preventing this violence will take courage in order to stop the presence of weapons in school environments. The initiative “Arm yourself with courage, speak up” is a significant contribution to a healthy coexistence in our schools and it is instrumental to the spirit of the Chana and Samuel Levis’ vision and mission”.
Participants received the material to start the implementation of workshops in their respective workplaces. They urged the kids to start using the line if they knew about any violent threat in their schools or communities. They were also informed that the material was available through the Internet at www.armatedevalor.org.
In the same way, Mayra Diaz, Director of Development of the BGCPR said, “the BGCPR is very excited of becoming an important part of the initiative, because these workshops will bring on the necessary tools to spread the word among all participants about violence prevention”.
To prevent violence, 1-877-70-VALOR (1-877-708-2567).

Centennial is ready for Hurricane season San Juan, June 16, 2009 – Customers from Centennial de Puerto Rico can feel safe that their communication will not be affected if an atmospheric phenomenon hits the Island this hurricane season. The company announced that it counts with the necessary infrastructure; the network is prepared and connected to underwater cables and fiber wires that provide coverage over coverage. It was also announced that the company would implement a crisis management program in case the service is interrupted in order to reestablish it in a minimum period of time due to the amount of generators and batteries that the company owns.
“We are continuously looking for resources and spending a significant amount of time preparing for the hurricane season. Initiatives to strengthen our network and support systems, periodic inspections and employee trainings”, said Ignacio Angulo, executive vice president for engineering and network maintenance at Centennial de Puerto Rico. “As leaders in the industry we are aware of the big responsibility we have with our clients and business partners, including other providers, who rely on us to offer their services’, he mentioned.
Likewise, Centennial’s network owns connection to various submarine cables and fiber wires that provide coverage over coverage. These 15 redundant wires in the network guarantee the communication of the more extensive optic fiber network in the Island.
“We have qualified personal throughout the Island 24/7 during the year ready to fulfill our clients’ needs”, explained José Ángel López, senior manager of corporate communications at Centennial. “In case of an emergency, customers can call directly our Call Center at 787-717-9500, Monday through Friday from 7:00am to 11:00pm, Saturday from 8am to 10pm and Sunday from 10am to 7pm. Centennial launches new strategy for unlimited combinations
San Juan, PR, June 25, 2009 – Convenience and flexibility are the key characteristics of a new initiative from Centennial de Puerto Rico, which allows customers to design their own service package based on their needs. It offers discounts based on the amount of lines and services requested.
“In a continuous effort to reward our loyal customers, we are consolidating our position as the leaders in integrated telecommunication solutions. We are the only carrier providing all the services within one company, the more services the more savings. Centennial offers mobile communications with voice and data capacity, residential telephones, broadband Internet services in mobile and fixed formats. It’s easy for our clients to design their packages based on their specific needs while saving in their bill. The result is simple: more value for their money”, said Naji Khoury, senior vice president of marketing and business development at Centennial de Puerto Rico.
The strategy relies in three important principles for the customer:
First, convenience: recent studies show that many clients subscribe to various services with different companies and don’t have control of their expenses because statements arrive at different times of the month. By consolidating all your telecommunication services with one provider, you will be able to control your time and your expenses with one call or one visit.
Centennial customers will save in two ways: receive discounts when adding additional lines to your account or by combining two or more services. The more services and additional lines represent more savings.
The second principle is flexibility. “We listen to our clients; they look for flexibility in the terms and conditions of their contracts. They can enjoy excellent rates and services, irrespective of having a 1 or 2 year contract”, added Khoury.
Centennial is also capitalizing in one of its main strengths: its network reliability. The company is well known for its excellent signal and coverage. At present, we have 436 cells throughout the Island, a number that is constantly growing bigger allowing the company to reach 90% of the total coverage.
To support the program, the company is launching a new marketing and advertising campaign that will include the creativity of its clients. “Everyone has different needs of communication and different budgets, which is why we stop creating packages and let the clients developed their own packages. Likewise, we will give them participation in the design of our advertising by inviting them to share ideas on the perfect plan through our advertising campaign”. said Moira Tamayo, vice president of marketing at Centennial de Puerto Rico. The campaign will consist in ideas submitted by the clients to the web page www.micombinacion.com, where the clients will make a perfect and customizable combination of services with graphics elements and photos.
