Centennial de PR provides CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) technology. CDMA spreads the information over a much greater bandwidth, making the transmission 100% digital, faster, clearer and safer.
Besides, CENTENNIAL DE PR is the only telecommunications company with a private network of optical fiber, positioning the Island at technology's cutting edge. Centennial's infrastructure of telecommunication networks include over 1,400 miles of land routes and more than 3,000 miles of coaxial cables within the Caribbean connected by submarine, optical fiber.
Centennial is continuously optimizing its wireless network in Puerto Rico, determined to expand its capacity to make way for the next generation of wireless data and voice services. Centennial has selected Nortel for the optimization of its broadband wireless network with CDMA2000 1X technology. This optimization, at an estimated cost of $15 million during this fiscal year, will provide higher levels of efficiency and productivity and will reduce the amount of lost calls.
It will also improve the network's capacity allowing the carrier to manage more calls in peak hours. Coverage will also benefit because the number of cells required to provide service in certain areas will be reduced and signal perceptiveness inside buildings will be improved. From November 2003 to May 2004, seventy (70) cells to improve coverage in different parts of the Island were installed. From June 2004 to February 2005, sixty (60) additional cells were installed for continuous improvement in coverage.
